Philosophy Chats
Our September range of philosophical questions discussed in the Senior Room included some of the following:
A friend shows you a picture that they have drawn. They ask you what you think of it and they wait expectantly to find out. You don't think it's very good.
Should you tell them what you think or tell them their picture is good?
What is a lie?
Is it ever right to lie?
Is it ever wrong to be polite?
A new country is being formed where there are no rules and no laws. In this country there will be no Prime Minister, no police, no parents, no teachers, no courts, no prisons. People will be free to do what they want. No one will tell the citizens of this country what they can or can't do.
Do you think this new country will be a better place to live than ours?
Do we follow rules and laws because we have to or because we want to?
Do rules and laws take away our freedom?
Is freedom more important than safety?
We had lots of interesting opinions, theories and discussion. Lots of food for thought......
